When we visit zoos, we are leaving our own environment, to visit animals in an alternate reality. The animals in our zoos are often refugees, or bred for their oddity, they are outside of their true environment. We do the best to make their worlds believable, but they are still abstract realms, which real life is displaced into. They are elegant creatures in a world of abstraction. This is the purpose of Displaced, to visit these creatures without pretense; acknowledging the artificiality of their habitats, without diminishing the truth of their existence.
